After Effects output to monitor
Posted by Stig Olsen on May 3, 2012 at 1:45 pmHi,
Any smart solution for output to external monitor?
My slots are filled:
1. ATI Radeon HD 2600
2. Mojo DX
3. E-Sata for Raid
4. P2 recorder card (AJ-PCD35)stig

May 3, 2012 at 1:59 pm1. Replace Mojo DX with AJA or BMD board and upgrade Avid to v6 for open hardware support
2. Cubix expansion chassis
3. Upgrade to a computer with more slots
4. Profile your computer monitor and use color management within AE

May 3, 2012 at 2:12 pmHi Walter,
I am in MC6 and I guess you understand that replacing Mojo DX with any of those boxes is not a proper solution in any way.
Mac only has 4 slots if you dont expand with Cubix, with a cost of a new Z800.
There is not a solution for us to work with the computer monitors.
Have anyone tested this? – https://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/dviextender/

May 3, 2012 at 2:24 pmSure, I understand — but your problem is that you fundamentally want to stick 5 cards in a 4-slot box. Any solution is going to involve compromise.
Assuming you want broadcast monitoring for color-accurate work, you can either use a supported video I/O card, or use color management with a high-quality, well-profiled display.
The DVI-SDI device you link to will still appear as a computer monitor to the system.

You can tear the comp panel off and drag it onto a second computer display. Cmd- will maximize the panel to the screen size.
If that’s what you’re after, then the DVI/SDI adapter would work, but it is limited to standard video resolutions. If you’re working at 1920×1200 or higher (recommended, since the panel itself will still occupy some screen space) you’ll need regular ol’ DVI.

What is ol’ DVI? Do I need more slots to use that? -

Sorry — good ol’ (shortened from good old) is an American colloquialism for the simple, tried, and true.
I was just referring to connecting a second monitor to the second DVI output on your Radeon 2600.

May 30, 2012 at 12:14 pmsorry to interrupt, I have been trying to get AE to output to external monitor.
I have a decklink studio card install in an Mac Pro and a sony pvm 2541, they are connected via SDI.
There is no 1080 25p settings, so I use 1080 50i. But the monitor is flickering very badly.
Any solution?? -

June 25, 2012 at 2:18 pmI would recommend checking KVMSwitchTech. They offer a wide range
of DVI Extender solutions. I have used a few of their DVI over Cat5
units and they worked well for my application.
