After Effects or Premiere markers into Cinema 4D
OK, this is more of a ‘how I solved this’ than a question.
I’m working on an animation that requires me to hit certain beats in music.
Trying to create markers in Cinema 4D for this is painful. My solution is not automatic, but is a LOT easier than working in Cinema.
I created a comp in After Effects (you could do the same thing in Premiere or any other video editor), then create a solid that is one frame long and something other than black, I used white.
Then, I dropped my music into my comp and opened the waveform.
Next, I placed the 1-frame solids everywhere I wanted a ‘marker’ in Cinema 4D.
After I was done with all my ‘markers’ I exported a a video file.In Cinema 4D, I created a background object, added a material to it and used the video clip as a texture.
I made sure my C4D project was the same timecode as my AE project.
Then, I went into the Animation (dope sheet) section of C4D and created a shortcut key to add a marker.
Now all I had to do was press the G key to move one frame forward, and every where I saw a ‘flash’ I added a marker with the shortcut key.Not the most elegant solution, but for me, it was much easier than trying to work with audio in C4D.
You could probably do this a LOT faster in Premiere Pro with copy/paste and being able to quickly navigate to fine the hits in the music.
Hopefully this will help someone.
