  • After Effects Optical Flares – Make only light show other layer help

Posted by Alex Stein on July 8, 2011 at 11:52 pm

Hi, my problem is basic but difficult to explain when written down. I have filmed me and my mates and have put it into an AE comp. I want to create a spot light using Optical Flares but I only want the video to show where it’s shinning. I want the part that the light isn’t shinning on blanket out.

    Any ideas?

    Alex

P.s. Sorry if this is not clear – like I said hard to explain!

I believe I was able to achieve the effect you are looking for, although I don’t have optical flares but you should be able to do something similar with it from what I know of it.

What you can do is put the flare on black solid and set the track matte of your footage to luma. I did an quick example I can post if you need it.

    Hope this helps
