Ok I’m pulling my hair out on this one. I have an opener due in a few weeks and on my Intel IMac when I try to open After effects i get this error

After Effects warning: Unknown BIB Error. invalid encoding, BRV, 0

And it wont open up After Effects, anyone have a clue how to fix this?

    Hi Matt.
Probably won’t be able to help you out here, but I figure I’d get the ball rolling and ask a few questions:

Is this the first time you have attempted to launch AE on your Intel mac? If not, what has changed (obvious question, I know)?
At what point does the error come — very beginning of launch? As it is loading and listing AE components? If so, can you see what component is loading when it craps out?

Thanks for the response. I’ve used it for awhile and all the sudden it’s throwing this error as I click the after effects alias. It doesnt even load up the loading window just throws the pop up error. Nothing has changed with my system.

[Matt Stevens] “Nothing has changed with my system.”

Not even a recent OS update?

    I get the same error.

This is not the first time I have run After Effects on my Intel Macbook Pro.

I just loaded Vers. 7 on the Macbook, I ran some lame project on it too see what it was all about. I get this error when I try to type a new text layer. I have 5 layers of the same STILL image that I put into a pre-comp, then used the text tool in the layer in which the pre-comp was imported.

It won’t let me type now without this error coming up, and the only way I can stop the error is by hitting “ok” and doing an “apple-S” before the next error comes up.

yeah, I’m getting there error message too. But I’m not on an Intel machine. I’m on a quad-core G5 (powerpc). It worked fine on Friday, but now, Monday moring, I can’t launch the application. I get the error upon launch, before I see the After Effects window or anything.
I have noticed that I can launch it okay if I login as a different user. But I’ve thrown away my preference files for after effects, so I still can’t figure out why I can’t get it to work with my normal user account.

Well, after days of trying to sort out the same problem (“Unknown BIB Error…”), I finally decided to do some serious cleaning.
I used Tech Tool Pro and ran the whole extensive tests and de-fragmenting tool.

    It worked perfectly.

I recommend this software to anyone. It’s saved my a**e so many times.

I figured the problem lies with permissions, especially with the new security updates of OS 10.4.8

Not sure of the details but well worth splashing out a few quid on Tech Tool Pro.

    All the best
