the i7 range of processors is currently not supported, and there are known issues with the multiprocessing feature in a computer that has such processor(s).

A bug fix update will add support for these processors.
You may want to turn off multiprocessing until that update is released.

With 12 GB of RAM (once the update ships), you may want to use 6 of your 8 cores (you can set the multiprocessing preferences to leave 2 CPUs free)… This should still give you screaming fast performance.

Sorry for multiple questions I asked earlier if this update will work with AE 7.0 and also wanted to know if AE 7.0 it isn’t able to fully utilize the i7 can you tell me the which processor would yield the best render performance with AE 7.0?

Will this update be available for past versions of AE such as 7.0? In other words will I be able to use an i7 based machine with AE 7.0?

It’s hard to say how would AE 7.0 work on an i7 processor. Running software on hardware that didn’t exist when the software was introduced is always a risky move.
It probably will work fine. But it won’t take advantage of multiple cores, since AE 7 didn’t have the “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously” feature.
Rather than getting the best processor for AE 7.0 why not get CS4 which will take advantage fully of your i7-based machine?

Makes sense I have been looking at CS4 anyway.

In your opinion, is the i7 the way to go?

Right now my render times on my old P4 are way too long for the amount of work I have and I want to pick the best machine for the job. I am doing a lot of chroma key rendering and the i7 machine I am looking at is only $1000.

Any input or suggestions is much appreciated.

Yes, an i7-based machine should give you very nice performance.
To take advantage of multiprocessing, make sure you get at least 2 GB of RAM per core. So, in a quad core machine, you want at least 8GB of RAM. Otherwise, you will probably have to tell AE to use just two of the available cores.
