  • After Effects is freezing during audio render

Posted by Megan Heck on November 20, 2012 at 10:07 pm

    Hello All,
I am trying to listen to the audio on my timeline in after effects, and I am using the option where you hold down command and scrub through with the mouse. The only problem is as soon as I do that After Effects freezes and crashes.

    Please help

[Vishesh Arora] “Convert mp3 to wav in Goldwave. Its a Shareware.”

Or Adobe Media Encoder, because you probably have that already.

Hey guys thanks for the input, my file is already a .wav file. I am running CS6, everything is updated. I’m also on a mac, but I not sure that makes a difference. I need to hear the audio in after effects to complete my project.

Holding Cmd while dragging the CTI scrubs both audio and video; holding Cmd and Opt while dragging the CTI scrubs audio only.

Try holding Cmd and Opt to scrub and see if that still crashes. If it works, you can rule out the audio as the problem and we can continue troubleshooting. If it doesn’t work, let’s talk a bit about what else is on your timeline.

It still crashed when I held cmd + opt and scrubbed through.

Next step for troubleshooting is to try to narrow down what’s causing the crash. Turn all the layer’s audio off and scrub. Turn them back on one and a time until it crashes.

If it crashes right away, create a new project with no audio and try to scrub.

I have one layer of audio, when I turned it off its scrubbed fine. When I turned it back on it crashed.

Try transcoding to AIFF with Adobe Media Encoder.

I converted it to an .aif and and it still crashed.

If you create a new project and import unrelated audio in, can you scrub that or does that crash as well?

Have you tried clearing the disk cache or restoring preferences?
