Heres the deal. I replaced my AE plugins folder with an associates at work as they had some plug ins that I needed/wanted and was too busy to sort through. After this happened and I restarted AE, I got these two error messages upon launch…

After Effects error: couldn’t find main entry point for PS Layer Import.plugin (48 :: 72)

After Effects error: couldn’t find main entry point for PS Layer Export.plugin (48 :: 72)

The app still opened, but I am now unable to import .ai or .psd files as comps. The selection is greyed out. If I try to drag in, I get the option to import as a comp, but after I click ok, the app crashes.

I checked and the PS import & export plug ins are in the plug ins folder I replaced mine with…

Any and all help to get me up and running is much appreciated.

    Thanks.

hopefully, you just pulled your plugins to the desktop or something, because there is obviously something different about those format plugins (possibly different versions of ae, or different updates, like v8.0 vs v8.0.2). if so, just replace the folder called ‘format’ within the plugins (i’d also replace the one called ‘extensions’) with the original ones.

if you didn’t save them, then you need to figure out what’s different about your version of ae and the other version… if yours is say 8.0 and the other is 8.0.2, then you may be able to run the updater (download from adobe) and update your version.

if it is the other way around, then you may need to update the other version, the bring that newly updated plugins folder over to your version.

if you are still having problems, then you may need to reinstall ae and any updates… and when you bring over the other plugins, don’t replace the whole folder, or at least leave the extensions and format folders alone….
