After Effects Crashes after 13 mins of Render. HELP!
Posted by Mentatduke on September 10, 2005 at 10:32 pmHi guys. I was wondering if anyone could lead me toward a solution regarding a rendering crash in After Effects. It keeps crashing at the 13 min mark. Any tips on what to do? Do I need to check my asset files? Reinstall After Effects? Help.
Thanks.

September 12, 2005 at 2:15 amIn fact, I dont’t know why AE couldn’t render more 10 min. In my case, copy the compostion, and divide into 2 compositions. And then add two 6 min composition in render qween.
I saw this case in many hardware platforms using AE plugin.
There is only one, AE!

Sometimes a sourceclip is corrupted, but it can also be a plug-in that causes the problem. The only way to find out is to enable layer-for-layer while rendering untill you find the one that causes the crash.
One other option: depending on what codec you’re rendering to, 13 minutes of footage might be a file of around 4 GB. If you’re rendering to a FAT32 partition, which has a filesize limit of 4GB, then this would cause the error. The way to solve that is to format the drive NTFS if you’re on Windows, or set the render to automatically divide in chunks of say 3GB – you can do this in the output options in the Render Que.

September 12, 2005 at 4:20 pmIt’s often a corrupt footage file. try rendering with all of the effects and motion blur off and at half resoultion. This will speed up the following test:
– Set AE to render only around the time in the timeline that it crashes (I assume it crashes at the same time every render).
– Do a test render – If it doesn’t crash, an effect may be to blame. In the past some bugs with certain effects have casued AE to crash at render time. If it still crashes…
– One at a time, Turn off any layers that are visible at the time it crashes, until it stops crashing. The last layer you turned off is probably corrupt.
Hope this helps.
