I’m probably the only one that this happens to, but when I apply block dissolve to some images (jpg, png, whatever) it doesn’t work. I’ve seen this twice now. It seems to be image specific, and images that were made in the exact same way have the block dissolve work for them.

    I’ve:

Duped a working layer and replaced the image. No worky.
Resaved the image in a number of different formats. Nada.
Resaved it with a different name. Nyet.
    Reimported it. Restarted. Nyente.
Made a new composition and reimported image and reapplied the effect. Nunka.
Wave a dead chicken over the computer and prayed to a pantheon of deities. Nothing but a rash.

    So I am stumped.

Just for kicks, I tried block dissolve with a dozen images or so sitting around in my “My Images” folder. (JPG, BMP, GIF, TIF, etc. Afraid I didn’t have any dead chickens handy.) None of them have the problem, so I’m just as stumped as you.

The images that are having the problem- do they have anything in common? I’m thinking that there might be something in them visually that may be killing the effect.

Other things to try- create a new project, trash AE prefs, reinstall AE. The basics. Oh, and I hate to mention it because I assume you’re already doing this, but you’re changing the settings on the effect (from the default of zero) to check its effectiveness, right?

    Hmmm…

Never having used the Block Dissolve effect, I decided to take a leaf from Tim’s book and play with some images. Tweaking the settings, I can see the effect, and I can keyframe it, but when I ram preview or preview, or simply park the timeline marker in the middle of the effect… nothing!!

Very strange. Tim, what res stills are you using?

    e.
