Unless you go on eBay, you can only buy the latest version of AE. Check the Adobe site.

AE and FCP are completely independent — they really don’t work together out of the box. If you want to send your FCP sequence into AE as a series of layers, you need to buy the Automatic Duck plugin. And you can’t go back (AE to FCP).

But as I said, unless you go private, you can only buy the latest version of AE.

Should I be aware of color shifting or any teck issues with AE8 or is it called cs3

Oh, yes. If you search the AE COW for “YUV” and “FCP” you should find more info. CS3’s color profiles may solve that, but search the forum. I haven’t delved into that feature yet.
