  • After Effect error: Particular cannot work on a time-reversed layer

Posted by Bruna Pastore on September 20, 2015 at 9:31 pm

    Hi,

I’m using trapcode particular on my After Effects CC 2015, but when I applied Time-reversed Layer, I received this message. “After Effect error: Particular cannot work on a time-reversed layer”
I tried pre-compose. I also tried render, but nothing are working. If someone can help me it would be great!

Hi, thanks for answer me back.
I also tried in After Effect CS4 and CS6.
Both of them keep the same error.
I’ve tried a lot, I have no ideia what’s happening.

Is there another way to do that?
    I’m learning AE.

I take that to mean that Particular doesn’t work on a time-reversed layer for a reason. The likely reason being that Particular has a built-in Physics Time Factor that you can use to speed up or slow or reverse time.

I still get the error message when I precompose Particular and do time-remapping (using the latest version of CC).

I found the only way to get it to work is to go into the advanced comp settings (of your Particular comp) and check the ‘preserve frame rate when nested’ box.

Life saver! thank you so much. Clicking that box in advanced COMP settings allows particular to be time reversed!!! Thanks

    Dear Dave,

I have stumbled upon this issue today and figured out a different solution.

If you time-reverse the comp with trapcode particular applied to it and precompose the whole thing, it will work on time-reversed layer in the main comp, but not in the precomp. Double reversal does the tricks. Just another way to go around it.
