I have been playing with this excellent free plug for After Effects (https://www.andrewdavidson.com/aeflame) for creating fractally cool thingies.

Its a fairly straight-forward process to get it to make fractal images/animations, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it to interact with another layer in AE.

What I would like to be able to do is use its fractalising magic on some static images, getting them to twist and warp etc, based on the plugs settings, but I guess I is toooo stewpid to figure out how to do this.

All advice and help will be ever-so-gratefully rec’d.

    Cheers,
    BK

Try using the animation you made using AEFLame, desaturate it, and use it as a displacement map on another layer.

Thanx Colin, I’ll give that a try.
