After a 2 year hiatus from editing I’ve returned with 3 huge jobs. I was going to simply clone my clean install drive from a few years ago only to discover it was somehow updated to 10.6.7 and can’t remember best OSX to run with FCP 7. Clone would of been easy, thanks Walter for that tip. I have time to clean install on my MacPro and MacBook Pro.

Whats best OSX to run FCP Studio 7 installed from original Disk, I have original OSX install DVD’s for Snow Leopard, and Mac OS X v10.2 was that Lion? and Panther 10.3. I also need to know which QT version, etc. Will “software update” work and can I control them to stop at the best version?

If all this info exist somewhere please point me to it, I couldn’t find the definitive listing of such anywhere. Discussions with pro and cons about FCP7 running on current OSX but I know better than to trust that.

Projects are tapeless workflow, ProRes LT, Output for YouTube and DVD, 80 – 150/hr footage per project.

    Thank you, very much.

FCP 7 came out when Snow Leopard came out. 10.6. Works best with that….10.6.8.

10.6.8 is the last official and stable OS for FCP 7 (I think FCP was at 7.0.3 at the time).

I’m running 2 Mac Pro’s with 10.7.5 and FCP 7.0.3 with no problems (I’ve heard many people running 10.8.X or 10.9.X as well), but 10.6.8 is the last official OS.
