  • AE7 running slow and not previewing

    Hey gang,

After all the problems I had with the AE CS3 preview i decided to go back to ae 7 for the time being. Its been working fine till mid afternoon yesterday when I opened up the program, it took a lot longer than it usually takes to open the project (2-3 times longer).

Once open I find the whole program very slow, even scrolling along the timeline on footeage that usually runs slow, same thing. When I come to Ram Preview the blue process bar fills up to about full and I get the message ‘mixing audio’ which usually takes about 1-2 seconds to go, however now the program stays in this state for 2-3 minutes and then either crashes or just goes back to normal mode, not rendering anything.
Ive no idea why this is, I havent changed any settings on the program. I have system restored, I have purged the cache numerous times, all to no avail.

One thing which may or not matter is while the program is stuck in the ram preview part it is using 100 of my CPU (not uncommon I think) however if I close the program with CNTRL ALT DELETE The program closes instantaneously, something which never happens on my computer, even when its working fine. It certainly should take longer

I know this is probably vague but I have no idea where this problem came from and any help would be much appreciated as I have some work due with a client in the coming weeks and really need to get it done

    thanks in advance

Well, it sounds like your working on a Windows which can be problematic sometimes but then again so can a mac. Its really all about how powerfull the pc is (video card, ram, ect.) If it just started happening recently then it might just be an odd bug that popped for a bit, sometimes my computer will run slow but try shutting the computer down and turning it back on and make sure all other apps are closed when running after effects. And of course no matter what, if your project uses a lot of effects like glows or plug ins then its going to run slow no matter what.

Do you use limewire, bearshare or other p2p programs like those? Because library files like those will defintley slow down your computer. Other than that i dont know what it could be and i would try calling adobe support.
