I just finished a movie that I rendered out as a quicktime movie. For DVD purposes, I converted that through more rendering via the mpg DVD codec. I ended up with a movie file and a wav file. However, when I went into the DVD software (Sonic’s my DVD) and I set everthing up, things went downhill. The blank dvd I used was a DVD + RW. I was able to burn it to the DVD, but it will only play on my computer(Dell Laptop) and on one dvd player in my house. The others say unreadable or incorrect disc. Any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

DVD + RW is a very new standard for older DVD players. That’s why most commercial burns are DVD-R not +R or RW. Even better is a DVD-9 disk. They hold 8.4GB and are the same ones used by Blockbuster etc.

You also have to make sure that you are creating a DVD movie disc, and not a DVD data Disc…..your QT needs transoding to MPG2, then burned to a DVD to create the necessary Video_TS and Audio_TS folders. I use EncoreDVD as it allows me to skip the renering in AE and render in Encore directly to MPG2…it also allows me to create and burn my disc directly inside of Encore.

When working with large projects inside of After Effects, I often come across a problem with RAM previews. When I hit the RAM preview button, AE kind of freezes up for about 30 seconds or so while showing a white bar filling up with blue under the comp window. After the 30 seconds, AE starts to render the frames and everything goes at normal speed from there. This is just really inconvenient and annoying when I need to preview with sound. Is there some sort of memory setting I should change? Shortening the work area doesn’t help.
