  • AE to completely edit video?

I tend to use Vegas to edit videos, but I just got into AE and it seems more flexible in certain parts (if I can learn it). Can AE be used to edit videos by itself, or is it mostly used just for certain parts of videos?

To add to Dave: “It’s a pain. Don’t do it.”

Edit the timing of your program in your NLE (Vegas), using placeholders for the effects shots if necessary. Once the timing is ***locked***, render the appropriate shots that need effects, then import those into AE. Work the magic, then render the shot and drop it back into the timeline of your NLE. That’s one way of working.

To use a metaphor, NLEs are “horizontal”, AE is “vertical”. Mostly.

Especially with Vegas 8, you can work at 8, 16 or 32 bits, so really there is no “loss” between render if used in 16 or 32 bit mode.
