  • AE Scripting: How does FX Console manage to save its own transparent screenshots

    Hello,

I’m new to the forum and I’m interested in AE scripting! I hope I’m putting my question in the right place.

I’m currently developing a AE script and I had a passing interest in how I might go about using Extendscript to create screenshots of my comp, then reimporting them, without having to go through the render queue.

One script that does this already is VideoCoPilot’s excellent FX Console, which allows you to save a PNG with transparency. Is there some kind of hiddene preview/frame cache that it pulls from to be able to do this?

    Thanks 🙂

I actually managed to get to the bottom of my question.

It turns out there’s a method called frameToPng() which takes a couple of arguments that specify the time and output location. Very handy.
