Hi, in AE, I’m trying to replace a television screen with my own video… pretty standard issue. I’ve got the video tracked in and fitting perfectly, etc. I was wondering, though, I would like the glare and light highlights already on the original black screen to show through onto the new video. Imagineer’s Monet has an automated method of doing this, extracting the shadows and highlights and creating a luminance map which can be applied over the new video, and the effect looks pretty convincing. Is there any way to get this done in stand-alone After Effects? Much thanks!

Just duplicate the layer the tv is on, throw it up top and make it’s opacity 25%.
