Exporting HDV video from AE CS5 I’ve already had the gamma shift issue described elsewhere (darker gamma on export), and haven’t quite fixed it by changing the Project Settings. But I’ve also noticed another export problem; the HDV I’ve exported from AE, then opened in FCP, is now somehow a different size. The video is full 1440×1080 anamorphic, the pixel shape is correct — but the new video looks as if I had just slightly zoomed out on the original video. In FCP, the image now has a narrow black frame around it, which can be adjusted back to correct size by zooming in to 102% in the FCP Motion tab. My Comp Preset settings are for HDV 1080 29.97, which matches the source footage, and so is my Pixel Aspect Ratio.

Very weird. Any ideas about this one?

    Are you using 5.0.1?
    What was your comp settings?

    Using FCP 6.0.1.

    Comp settings:

    Preset: HDV
    Size: 1440×1080
    Frame rate 29.97
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: HDV 1080
    Resolution: Full

Exporting as HDV 1080i60 (which is the native format), Custom: Best Settings, Quicktime. I have also exported versions at 1920×1080. They look exactly the same in the FCP timeline.

Solved the problem by exporting from AE as ProRes, then putting on FCP timeline.

This might be an example of this bug (here affecting the Apple XDCAM codec) in action:
