I have to admit I’m a newbie with regards to these issues with video. The screencorder recording was taken at 20fps with a bit rate of 100 (the bit rate being a complete guess on my part, as some of my earlier guesses for bit rate, which were on the lower side, as low as 8, rendered nothing but black screen, whilst 100 worked fine).

The vegas rendering, on the other hand, was the option of 512. I’m puzzled because even without any editing of the screencorder recording in vegas whatsoever, just a re-rendering in vegas at what I’d used with success in the past, created a file of essentially equal size – 1.39mb vs. 1.35mb – but with considerable quality loss. I do understand the concept of a files degrading with each pass of some sort of compression or manipulation, since I’m comfortable with photoshop; I just find this loss in quality in the video sphere rather significant, although maybe that’s just the nature of video, I don’t know. Or, I was thinking it had something to do with recording of a computer screen, something like you might see if someone took a camcorder and made a tape of a show on TV by pointing their camera at the actual TV.

Your project or render settings are likely very different than the screen capture. For example, your capture may be 1200 x 1000 pixels, progressive scan. Your timeline is probably set to 720 x 480, interlaced. Those are going to look significantly different.

that’s the type of information I need. I’ll look into that and see if I can get them to set up so as to marry, maybe that’ll work. I never thought of it like that.
