I’m using After Effects 6.5 running on Windows XP Pro with SP2. We work on a network in a corporate environment, and the permissions settings in XP on our machines are causing problems with workflow and presets. I’m asking for local Administrative privileges for all of our operators, and am getting a fight from our engineering department about it.

Has anyone had experience with optimal XP permissions settings that will enable us to: create and save templates, create and save favorites, and change and manage all of the preference, plugin, and font settings that are critical to our getting the job done? The current User permissions level severely limits functionality. Thanks.

There shouldn’t be a problem render module templates, configs etc. – they are created under the current user context in the users home directory which by default at least has write permissions for the owner/ user. For the rest of the stuff like adding fonts and managing plugins you should be a “main user”. Administrative priviliges are not required unless your system administrators explicitely changed the default Windows behaviors. I would try to talk your people into creating a special user group “AE Users” and give that group the required rights. Then it’s much easier to manage users, add existing users to that group or create new ones.
