AE jsx button to facilitate tasks
Posted by Spence Armajo on February 13, 2006 at 6:31 amI am wondering how I would go about and create a JSX button to create a task to have it copy effects from one layer to say just about every other layer to speed everything up. say one footage has 3 effects and I want them to be applied to other layers through a click of a button.

February 13, 2006 at 7:28 amI don’t think you need a script to do what you want.
Save the combo of effects as a preset, then select one or more layers up tp all layers in the comp) then Animation > Apply Animation Preset or Recent Animation Presets, and choose the one you just created, and on the next comp it’s even faster as you’ve already created the preset.
Methinks.

February 13, 2006 at 8:10 amI know that once you have the original, you can just copy and paste it to the others but you have go into layer and apply the presets indivually. I was trying to get everything automated but it seems like it would be a lot of work. I know the bigger shops have scripts like this where they automate certain tasks over a variety of shots, then have it batch rendered into folder that imports it back into the project. I was not sure if this can be done in after effects but I know other programs work like that.

February 13, 2006 at 1:01 pmAs far as applying Effect Presets – You don’t have to go into each layer and copy paste.
I just used a 10 effect preset (10 different effects)on 104 layers each of the 104 layers ended up with 10 effects). It took 37 seconds, my machine is not the fastest.
Select AS MANY layers as you want. Then Animation, Apply Preset > Choose your preset.
You do have to take a minute or two (or leass)initially to save a preset.
Animation presets can include more than just effects, also expressions sliders, and probably more. As far as importing and batching files, that is a script thing and aeenhancers is great for that.
