Hey fellas, im somewhat new to all these codecs laying around out here in cyberspace. I usually do everything uncompressed (due to my 2 tb storage i recently invested in haha.) From the pro version of quicktime 7 …or i atleast think it is, I have the h.264 codec listed in my codec options for both applications but whenever i render out with it, it doesnt seem like much joy, 2 minutes of dv footage = 300 megs of video with this magical “h.264” codec showing up on my list. If this is not the correct codec, where can i get it. Basically what im asking is what do i need officially to render out in pure h.264? Thx a million guys and gals, appreciated already =D

Actually, that does sound pretty large for h.264. I’ve got a BBC clip that I downloaded from the HD section on Apple’s website that’s a minute and a half long at 1080P (24fps) and it’s only 93 MB, and it looks phenomenal.

Make sure you have the two pass VBR opton checked; that should help a lot if it was unchecked before. Not sure what else could be giving you that big a file. What is your source footage?

Is the 2 pass VBR an option when rendering from After Effects? What is the best way to render in H.264 from AE?
