  • AE CS3 :: Vector Paint :: Brush frame tracks slooow behind mouse pointer

I upgraded from AE 6.5 to CS3 and see that Vector Paint does not perform well– the brush frame tracks behind the mouse when moving at anything but a very slow speed. The same project in AE6.5 is fine. The results are the same on 3 different machines. My primary machine is with a newly installed OS with no other Adobe products installed, only AE CS3 8.0.1. I called Abode– they saw the problem and having no workaround, submitted a bug report and suggested I do the same.

I’d like to upgrade to CS3 for the availability of FLV from the Render Queue (rather than File >> Export).

    My question:

Is “FLV from the Render Queue” available somehow in AE6.5? — then I don’t need to upgrade.

Is there a plugin for CS3 with a vector paint option? — then I can upgrade.

    Thanks,
    Stumped

I called Adobe Tech Support and they could recreate the problem:

Composition >> New Composition | Layer >> New >> Adjustment Layer | Effect >> Paint >> Vector Paint | (Vector Paint) >> Enlarge the brush size | Move brush around while not painting => brush frame tracks behind mouse pointer

The tech rep considered this a bug and could offer no workaround. He said I should submit a bug report.
While I was on hold with Adobe Tech Support I found if I leave the mouse alone for a period of time, the brush frame may disappear and when I move the mouse again, the brush frame reappears in the spot where it disappeard. I can do this repeatedly and make brush frame ‘residue’ patterns. After about a minute of this the remnants disappear.

    MACHINE_1:
    OS: WinXP SP2
    CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600@2.40GHz
VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS PCIE 512 MB (6.14.11.6371 – nVIDIA Detonator 63.71)

MOUSE: Logitech MX518 — (Generic Windows Driver)

    MONITORS: 1 or 2 LCD

    MACHINE_2:
    OS: WinXP SP2
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 3400+ @2.09GHz
VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GS PCIE 256 MB (6.14.11.6371 – nVIDIA Detonator 63.71)
    RAM: 2GB(2 x 1GB) DDR2 400 (PC 3200)

MOUSE: Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer — (Generic Windows Driver)
    TABLET: None
    MONITORS: 1 or 2 LCD

    ******BUG******
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Composition >> New Composition
    2. Layer >> New >> Adjustment Layer
    3. Effect >> Paint >> Vector Paint
    4. (Vector Paint) >> Enlarge the brush size
    5. Move brush around while not painting

Results: Brush frame tracking lags behind mouse pointer. This tracking lag is more pronounced in an actual project.

Expected results: Brush frame should keep up with mouse pointer. After Effects 6.5 performs just fine.

    Hi,

    Please try the following:

Create a layer, apply vector paint then click on the Option menu.

Now uncheck the Stylus option that says “Use High Res. Coordinates”

Et voila! you should be ready to go.

    Salut.

The stylus option that says “Use High Res. Coordinates” is checked but is also grayed out so it can’t be unchecked. I see it is the same for AE6.5.

My Wacom tablet is not, and hasn’t been, installed.

I’ll hook it up to see if I can uncheck that box.

I installed the Wacom tablet which allowed me to uncheck:

Stylus option >> “Use High Res. Coordinates”.

I unchecked that but the change had no effect.

Any suggestions to a fix or Vector Paint alternative/plug-in ?

    thx
