    Hi everyone,
    I have a problem with AE CS3.
I launch it good, everything is fine. But, when I import ANY, absolutely ANY file, it freezes up and then gives me the “adobe after effects encoutered and error and needs to close” thing. I tried any kind of files, big and small ones but nothing.
I seriously need this program… Please help!
    Thanks.

Can you give us any specifics in terms of your system? OS version? QuickTime version?

The catch all answer should be: try a reinstall of AE. But that may not solve problems relating to codecs/QT/OS issues.

At this time I can’t add anything except that I am having the exact same problem. This is my second clean install. One thing I have not yet tried might be the problem, if you have done the same thing I did.

I installed AECS3, then I dragged copies of all my plug-ins from AE7 into the new installation. Since AE7 didn’t come with these plugins, and I didn’t install them “correctly” I am thinking this might be my problem and I will do yet another clean install, without adding a single plugin. I will share my results.

If you bought AECS3 straight from Adobe, then I don’t know.

If you have a pirated version, it happens.

You are better off going to straight to adobe and purchase it.

Yes, I pirated it (sorry..), I downloaded the trial and downloaded a crack that replaces the AfterFX.dll in Support Files folder. I think that could be the problem, but I cant check if I reinstall without it because I won’t be able to access after effects because my trial expired a while ago. I downloaded it some time ago and activated the trial but never used it because I thought it was a bit complicated. Now that I finally understood what it’s used for I decided to try it again. I can’t afford After Effects… I need it for a movie I’m making with a game… So I had to try something.
