AE CC 2015 13.7.2.3 Very Slow Laggy Comp View Performance on OSX
Hi, I did a clean install of OS X El Capitan, and a fresh install of the latest AE 2014 and AE 2015.
The comp view update (frame rate navigation) is terrible on the new AE 13.6 (2015) compared to 13.2 (2014), and the problem doesn’t seems to be with my mac configuration because 2014 is much better using exactly the same hardware and OS.
That means this new version is a great step back in basic performance.
I recorded a test for comparison using a very simple project:

You can notice that even with a single image layer I can’t have a good view update.
This recording was made some time ago, but with the latest OS, AE em GPU driver updates the result is exactly the same.
This is a know issue? Will it be fixed? I’m stuck on 2014.
OS: OS X 10.11.5
Mac Pro (Mid 2010)
CPU: 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
RAM: 48 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 4095 MB
Tried with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 OpenGL Engine (Mac Edition), same issue.Robinson Sampaio

That’s interesting, because I have also noticed some weird performance issues in CC 2015 on my desktop. Now, I don’t have a monster desktop like yours, but I do have 16gb of ram with an Intel I7-4970k or something @3.4ghz, so I’m not sure why this happens, even kn Half res.

I’m pretty sure it’s not just me, because I have three Mac Pros here, with different specs, and they all presents the same problem.
The comp view is real time in CC 2014 but very laggy in CC 2015. Even Photoshop 2015 does this. It takes a while to load the image before dragging (hand tool) and zooming.
I’m just wondering why I can not find anyone else talking about it.
Perhaps this problem is with multi-displays configs?

We’ve been feeling the same way in our studio. Ever since they started messing with RAM previews it seems like things have gotten way worse. I felt like 2014 was a good version until they had that issue with the RAM preview delay. If it weren’t for that, I’d probably go back to it. I’m not sure that 2015 was really an improvement. Hopefully the next version is as performance oriented as they’ve said.
I do enjoy that they mention real time playback of cached frames with synced audio as a feature of the next version. That feature worked on most versions of AE that I’ve used since version 5.0 and it was called RAM preview.
