  • AE as SWF file generator – advice needed

Hi ppl, I guess this is the best place to ask this question:

I have been asked to create a small piece of Flash animation for a website. How competent is AE at creating a flash file & is there anything I need to be aware of?

This is a new area for me so it might seem like a dumb question to ask. I don’t have access to Flash to create the file which is why I would look @ the Export/SWF option in AE.

The art-work to be animated will be created in Illustrator.

    Thanks for any helpful advice.

AE can create an SWF file just fine. What you need to pay attention to when you do it is how much of the AE comp you rasterize. Not all of AE’s features can be directly translated into native SWF, but it can rasterize what’s not supported. Problem is that can make the file really big. You can always increase the compression on those objects, but then it can look nasty.

If you’re just doing simple animations with vector shapes, though, it shouldn’t be bad at all. Experiment a little and see how the results work for your project.
