This is really annoying me. I have a simple graphic that I turn into a 3D layer. I set a keyframe and by using the Y property I animate it onto the screen. I have two keyframes. One puts the graphic off the comp and one on. I move 3 seconds down the timeline and try to create a third keyframe to make the graphic drift a little. AE automatically turns the keyframe into a bezier. So instead of moving onto the screen, drifting in the same direction a little and then moving off, it drifts on, floats down, then back up, then down and off.

It’s really annoying. It’s so bloody basic yet it is killing me. There has to be a way of stopping this. And I am not using the “round” auto bezier keyframes, this happens if I use standard “diamond” shaped keyframes or easy ease in or out or easy ease. I’ve even tried to use intermediary keyframes to try and bypass this “helpful” feature AE seems to have.

    ARG!

    Hi there,

To remove the unwanted motion, Make the first keyframe a Held KF. Right-click on KF and choose “Toggle Hold Keyframe”

    Hope this helps!

    cheers,

Preferences > General > Default Spatial Interpolation to Linear is your friend!

If you want some curvature to the motion path you can add it later with the Pen (G) tool. I usually do this in a 4-up view for 3D scenes.

Thanks. I knew it was something simple. Much appreciated.
