Activity Forums Adobe After Effects AE 7.5???

  • Posted by Eric Christians on August 24, 2006 at 1:37 pm

Not trying to ruffle any feathers on the forum with this question but has anyone heard if Adobe is releasing AfterEffects 7.5 in 2007? Not looking for any specific time/date just if they plan to next year.

The reason I am asking is that we are preparing our budget for the upcoming year and would like to AfterEffects 7.5 upgrade in the budget proposal. The General Manager is kind of a stickler for accurate names/titles on the budget proposals…Guess a few years back one of the web guys put a certain software in the budget proposal, it got approved and the following year the web guy bought another brand of software that was twice as expense and did half as much so the web guy end up buying the original software too. Needless to say GM was very upset at the double purchase and the web guy no longer works for us. The GM doesn’t mind fudging a bit on the prices (give or take $50-100) due to inflation/rising costs just has an issue with making sure that things on the budget proposal is properly named. Go figure!

Again not trying to ruffle any feathers, just trying to make the most accurate budget proposal I can….

Thanks again for any help and/or light you may shed on this issue.

Sorry to be so harsh, but even if you apologized beforehand, your entire post is pretty pointless. It has been Adobes policy for years to not release any info on that type of thing until the release is immanent (and that means no longer than 14 days away) and everything else is sheer speculation. You won’t get any answers here because, as my colleague Steve Roberts so nicely put it: “Those who tell don’t know, those who kno can’t tell.”

That aside, it strikes me as a strange business policy to make software purchases dependant on the availability of future versions of a tool. This is simply not how things are done. Either your GM is willing to put some money aside or he isn’t. Everything else is just him looking for excuses to not invest anything at all.

    Indeed.

If you need it now, you buy it.
If you’ll need it in two weeks, you buy it now and learn it.
If you don’t need it, you buy something else: what you need. Or you save for something bigger.
If you’re budgeting for next year’s purchases, you budget to buy the current version. (It took a long time for 7 to come from 6.5.)
If your boss is afraid of 7.5 comes out the next day he buys it, that’s a chance we all take with software. Part of the game.

… and the COW is a rumour-free zone, by the way. 🙂

Thanks, Mylenium … I was inadvertently quoting the Tao Te Ching. Good book.

Sorry! I didn’t mean to ask for rumors…

I was hoping that there was some official word from the folks at Adobe that anyone on this forum might have received or read. I usually try to stay up-to-date but have been rather busy the last few months so I haven’t had much time to surf the net.
I wish it was that easy to just say we need this upgrade and get it. But if it is not preplanned ahead of time to purchase for the following year you are S.O.L. when you really do need it.

    Thanks anyway for the insight…

No worries. As far as I can recall, Adobe has taken about a year-and-a-half between upgrades. The step from 6.5 to 7 may have been delayed due to the Macromedia purchase.

… so why not budget for the purchase anyway? 🙂
