    Hi All,

I’ve been coming across a wierd problem that i’ve never experienced in AE before. I’ve been using AE 7 on a number of jobs for a while but this is the first time this has happened to me.

basically i have a big project split into a number of seperate after effects projects. Over night i have set a different section to render on each of three machines – they all access the same files located on the main machine across a gigabit network. On checking the renders in the morning i have lots of elements from my projects that just disspear for a single frame leaving a black shape, then they flick back on for the next frame. This happens sporadically across all three renders. initially i thought they were just mistakes but when i look into the after effects projects there is nothing wrong on those troublesome little frames. I’m then having to render all the bad frames out as still images [which works fine but is a pain] and cover them up on a final cut timeline.

If i render the whole sequence again – the wierd frames occur in the same places.

If anyone can give me some clues or suggestions to check out id be really grateful.

For general info on the problem – these were long renders – around 20 – 30 hours. The problem first showed up after switching the projects from 8bpc to 16 bpc – although going back to 8bpc didn’t correct things. The source material is a mixture of digital stills, Tiff sequences from maya and DVC Pro HD footage – being rendered down to Uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2 quicktimes with the blackmagic codec. Example machine is – G5 dual 2.7ghz with 8 gb of ram – OSX 10.4.6 + AE 7

    Thanks,

    Paul

Hi – did you find any resolution to this?

A similar issue has been happening to me for a while – renders will skip processing an effect, or a layer, or a transform property etc for a single frame but everything’s fine in the composition.

If I purge-all the dodgy frames will render fine, but then I get dodgy frames somewhere else in the sequence…. very annoying!

Weird that no-one else is reporting it?!
