AE 7 freezes during startup splash.
Hi there,
I havent been able to run AE 7 recently because it stucks during its startup splash screen sequence when it is showing the amount of ram used e.g. “8 % of 496 MB ram used”.This happened simultaneously at my work place and at my home. I have uninstalled and reinstalled AE several times but its just not starting up.
is it a virus or a hardware issue?
If anyone can help me solve this issue, it will be a great relief. Thanks in advance. Bye.

has anything been installed on both systems recently? any new codecs or effects?
i will say that 496 mb of ram isn’t very much, but if it was working previously, i would start looking at third party effects and codecs.
i would start by trashing the pref file, it should be called ‘adobe after effects pref.’
then pull out any third-party plugins from ae’s plugin folder.
i could tell you where the third-party codecs are for quicktime on mac (library>quicktime and users>username>library>quicktime), but i’m not sure on windows. often, installing video players or other media software (nle, etc) will add third party codecs, so if you can think anything that may have bee installed recently you may be able to track those down easier.

thanks for your reply. I did everything you told me and more. I dont have a preference file as i told the uninstaller to remove it during last uninstall. As it didnt startup, it didnt make a .pref file.
Uninstalled quicktime, storm codec (codec installer n media player). I have no 3rd party plugin so far. Its still not running. gets stuck as soon as it reaches showing ram usage line.
I am doing all these operations on my office computer which has 2 gb ram. can it be a virus then? Need help urgently. -
i think it’s time to call adobe to get help… i would tell them you tried the install on two diffent computers, but the aoftware crashes or stalls at the same point when you try to open it… this is pretty unusual, but they have a lot more info about software conflicts and other issues that may be causing the problem.
