  • Advice please on Back ups for FCPX

Hi Folks. My introduction to Macs was driven by learning FCPX. So I kind of bypassed the science of backup. It’s not that I don’t have any, I suspect I have too much – but I have no way of knowing if this is normal.

I run an iMac for FCPX use with media on an external 1TB hard drive. According to the storage breakdown, currently about 330Gb is dedicated to movies while over 576Gb is back up.

Is this a normal ratio or am I being a newbie when it comes to managing my back ups?

The temptation is to go in a blow some of this away, if I knew where to find it. But that sounds a bit scary.

Any advice please on sensible use of storage on my external hard drive for my movies/projects/events?

you are not “backing up” if you have the media and backup on the same drive.

Gerry, are you a student ?
