Advice on working in a xdcam-ex 23.98 project with some 29.97 and 25 frame media
Hi Folks
I hope someone can offer some advice on this. We are just starting a
new project shot on xdcam-ex. We were told by the director that all of the footage is 1080p 23.98fps but we have just discovered thats only 65-70% of the media. The rest is either 1080p 29.97fps, 1080i 60fps both ex footage or PAL SD 25fps (archive footage mixture of dv and quicktimes).We have created a 23.98 project which is our master project as thats
the majority of the media and also how we will be delivering. And we have also created projects for the other frame rates so we can import the media into those projects and then bring those bins into our master project. This works fine for the SD 25 frame clips but the 1080p 29.97 xdcam-ex clips still won’t play we just get a black screen.We opened the clips in their native frame rate project via AMA and then transcoded them onto our internal media drives using the same
xdcam-ex 35mbits codec and moved the transcoded clips into a new bin
and then opened that bin in our master project but the only way they will playback is if we cut them into a timeline and then render that
timeline which is incredibly slow. We are running mc 5.0.3.7r on win7
64bit xw8400 8GB ram, FX1800. -

Ok it now seems like we’ve had some success bringing shorter
xdcam-ex 29.97 clips into the 23.98 project. There are a lot
of long (over 1 hour) clips in this job so we’ll probably make sequences with shorter clips and bring those in either that
or subclip the longer clips. Will post again if we encounter any further problems.
