    building a raid 3 array with 6 seagate constellation ES.3 drives. will be used for video and photography. im a cc subscriber and use cinema 4d.

    basically whats an ideal setting for stripe and cluster sizes for this? tia

    Hi Mark,

    Raid 3 is an old system. With 6 HD’s I would recommend Raid5, if you want more protection Raid 6, but Raid 5 gives you enough redundance with just 6 drives in one array. I believe you use good reliable enterprise drives, all the same size and brand.

    thanks for the heads up…still curious as to what i should set stripe and cluster size. btw this will be on a areca 1220

    Just follow the advice in the manual for the specific Raid level.

    Hi Mark

    Just leave it the default 64kb.
    you’re using it for large sequential reads so larger sizes wont make much difference. Most of these controls relate to server and database specifics.

    A 1220 is pretty old, have you already brought the controller?
