Me again … I’ve been messing with trying to create a “prism” (would like to get a light shining through it to split into the spectrum but probably too much to ask) and after some research I guess the advanced renderer handles light better than the basic package but it’s too much money for me at the moment. Does it really make that much difference ? I can’t really justify the expense until a paying job comes through the door – so i guess my point is do ALL subjects benefit from the AR … sorry this question is a bit vague … do all you pros use the AR ?

The main feature that AR adds is global illumination, which can add a tremendous amount of realism. You can achieve similar results without it, but it requires much more work and skill.

AR also adds caustics, which can be very effective but which are less often used. Can also be faked.

AR further adds the subservice scattering shader, which IMO is not so hot, as well as several post effects (which can be done in post).

Thanks Adam … that helps …. It looks like I’ll have to start saving some pennies.
