  • Adobe Premiere Pro won’t let me add any effects

Hi. I’m new to Premiere and I’m completely stumped on this: Adobe Premiere won’t let me add any effects to any sequence. If I try dragging the effects over to the sequence, the little hand has a tiny ‘no symbol’ (with a slash through it) and I have no idea why. It seemed to be working fine the other day so I’m utterly confused. The footage is MTS. file, but and I thought Premiere pro could handle this format without problems. I’m running Macbook Pro, Core 2 duo, 2.66 GHz 4 gig memory. Does this have anything to do with Mercury playback engine? It’s currently grayed out. I have a feeling I’m overlooking something obvious. Any ideas?

Is the track active? Go all the way to the left of the timeline and click on the track to activate it.

    Then buy this book…..

You will be happy you did 😀

What are you trying to apply the effect to? You mention twice that you’re trying to apply the effect to a sequence, which is what has me wondering, since you apply effects to effects to clips in a sequence.

Please show screenshots or at least be very specific about what it is that you’re doing.

There’s information about applying effects here.

Thanks for responding, guys. It’s working fine now. I don’t know if I was trying to drag it over too fast or what. Regardless, it was a noob move. Embarrassing.

I am having the same issue as well and desperately need to resolve it. I was adding an effect just fine, then went to add an additive dissolve plugin to a clip and then the hand with the slash sign appeared. now whenever I even just grab an effect plugin I see this hand and needless to say can’t apply it to any clips. I am fairly new to premiere but this seems like a quickly solvable issue I just have no idea what went wrong. clips are active and everything.
