Adobe Premiere Pro – Darken Footage – H.264
Help: I’ve imported a video into PP and I noticed I have lost a lot of details/highlights. The video has been corrected or adjusted I assume, is their a way to stop PP correcting/adjusting the footage ? While playing the video in VLC or Quick Time it sustains the value, I’m guessing their codec readers detect the right information? I than tried windows media player to compare the results and found out it mimics PP values…crushing the blacks and losing a lot of details. I know how to adjust levels and gamma in PP / PS / AF. The issue is it basically destroys that information so no way of pulling the values up again… I’ve taken screenshots with VLC/QT and used PS to restore the the details, how ever I did the same with PP the same frame and tried the process to restore the image and it clearly showed lost data… between the two. I’ve listed below the specs of the video. If Anyone can shine light on this issue I would be very thankful.

There is a well-known issue with QuickTime color management when displaying H.264 files. The problem seems to be amplified when viewing videos on computers that also have the Creative Suite applications loaded. Try viewing the file in QT on a computer without the Adobe apps. Alternatively, open the file in QT and perform the following:
– Select “Window” and “Show Movie Properties”
– Click “Video Track”
– Select the tab marked “Visual Settings”
– In the lower left corner, set “Transparency” to “Blend”
– Adjust the “Transparency Level” slider to 100%
– Set “Transparency” to “Straight Alpha”
– Toggle the “High Quality” setting by clicking it twice (this just resets the image)
– Close the Properties windowYou should now see the true colors as stored in the file. DO NOT save the reformatted file in QuickTime; just close it when done.
