Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 – Importing and Rendering Issues
Hi. I’m 17 years old and have made the switch from Final Cut to Premiere. I made the switch because dynamic link between after effects and premiere seemed amazing. I was tired of constantly rendering videos out back and forth between final cut and after effects. Dynamic link is everything I hoped it would be with the exception that it can only work one way in each session, but it doesn’t really matter that much because I can copy and paste clips from premiere to after effects and then send the comp back to premiere from there, so I get the best of both worlds 🙂
As I kept playing around with premiere I liked it more and more. I like the interface better, and editing goes quicker with that. Also the keyframe editor is amazing, much smoother than FCP’s and it shows you the velocity of each edit which is nice. However as I started shooting my own digital footage (I am only just now switching from DV to digital) I encountered some serious problems. A lot of research I have done on editors switching from FCP to PrPro points to editors loving not having to render in PrPro. They all say that they can stack as much as they want up and watch it in real time. For me, this is not the case. In fact it is opposite. Granted, I only have 4GB of RAM (being a young DIY guy) but my system is even asking me to render as soon as I drop the clip in. I drop it on the timeline and a yellow bar appears and then I can’t watch it in real time. It’s really a pain having to render all the time. In contrast, FCP auto sets up my sequences and I don’t have to render anything unless I drop an effect on it. PrPro is asking me to render if I even have 2 video layers. This did not happen back when I was shooting SD DV tapes, only now that I’m switching to digital. I tried changing my sequence settings but it still wouldn’t work. I’m not sure what to do.
Bottom Line: Is there a way to auto set up sequences in Premiere like I can in FCP or will do I have to figure out the sequence settings on my own, or, is the issue totally unrelated and I don’t know what I’m talking about? In any case, any help would be greatly appreciated. The ability to make an edit and not have to render would GREATLY increase workflow speed haha.
Thanks!
