Adobe premiere 6.0 and DVDs
Hey Guys I am running out of answers here. Ok well heres my problem, I have just edited a play and it is two hours long I shot on mini dv. I am trying to transcode the project into mpeq2 because I am going to make DVD’s. So I was going to use the Cleaner EZ 5 that is installed on my computer. So cleaner loads and then shuts down or fails on me. I have to export to a fat32 external harddrive because this is a hand me down computer I got and the computer I am using doesn’t have a DVD writer just a reader. So I have to burn on another computer. The Fat32 only holds 5 gigs at a time…..
So one of my questions is there a plugin or something where I can Encode and compress with out having to export my timeline. Because it is prompting me that its going to take 7 hours?
Also if I do have to export my timeline which would be the best settings for me to use when I do export the movie to the hard drive… So it doesnt take so long?
Also the computer I am editing on has adobe encore… So can I some use encore to encode my premiere project with out exporting. And if I do use encore to transcode to mpeg2 can I save that file to my fat32 then open that project up and burn it on a different computer? Or can I just take my avi file and use encore to just transcode so I can have enough room on my external. this all really confusing I really need someone to help me out.

I believe Fat32 only allows files of 2GB, so that would be an issue exporting to MPEG-2 for DVD because the DVD file will be over 4GB. Adobe has a formula of 560/minutes to figure data rate for MPEG-2 encoding, so for a two-hour video (120 minutes) encode at 4.5 data rate. This assumes you will also use Dolby AC3 audio, as PCM audio would take up over 1GB by itself!
In Premiere, use File > Export > Media Encoder and choose an “MPEG-2 DVD” preset. You can then go into the Video tab and change the encode setting to 4.5 CBR data rate.
Make sure “multiplexing” is OFF. The result will be an .m2v video file and .wav audio file. You can Import these files into Encore, and make sure in Encore that audio transcode is set to Dolby AC3, then burn your DVD.

Yeah this version of adobe premiere 6.0 doesnt have that option. im going to try exporting sections to the fat 32. and then rebuild the timeline in a program callled kdenlive, because the computer I am editing on doesnt have a dvd burner. the computer that does is running on ubuntu, linux… I bit off more than i can chew. But it wont stop me from getting this done. Do you think that will work if I transfer the video over to the fat32 then rebuild it on kdenlive then transcode and burn on the linux comp.

A little bit of nitpicking: fat32 is 4 gig.
It is very easy to change fat32 to ntfs.

You’re right, Fat32 is 4GB…I was thinking of .wav files, which I believe do have a 2GB limit
