Adobe Premier CS3 audio drift on capture
Hi guys I have been editing with Adobe since 6.0 and I moved into HD in the last little while. I am capturing 1hr segments of video from HVRz7u sony camera the audio has drifted quite a bit, well over a second.
Never had problem with earlier capture of about 20 mins. Is it Tom screwing up or is there some kind of issue with Adobe. I was going to upgrade to cs4 but I need to know if this will correct the problem.
Here is my system
windows xp pro 32 bit
intel quad 2.83patriot 4gb ddr2 800
Onboard firewire
capturing using western digital 1tb 7200 speed A radeon video card kind of mimicked the system on Video Guys Site
Any help would be appreciated.
I also have matrox rx2 board but I didn’t use that firewire port

What I’ve encountered on rare occasion is not a gradual drift over the duration of a particular clip, but always an abrupt change where I can find the point in the clip where the cameraman paused recording and it caused some sort of little glitch. Everything prior to this the audio is in sync, but after this the audio is off as much as 2 sec I’ve seen. But once the the clip ends, the audio in the next clip returns to perfect sync. If this is the case with you, perhaps try loading in clips at 10-15 minute durations to minimize the problem.
One thing I have noticed though, 99% of the time I see this it is from footage that came from a non-pro camera.
So maybe is this a camera issue then, I don’t know?

A 2 sec difference in sync can be caused by a dropout in the tape, special with HD recordings. You will have less problems if you use HD mini tapes. They have a better quality on dropouts.
We have correct this by unlinking video and audio and moving the audio in the right direction (re-syncing)Good luck

I don’t even bother to unlink, I just use the slip tool on the audio track.
