  • Adobe Media Encoder stops exporting from Premiere for some reason

Posted by Amar Salgia on January 9, 2011 at 8:06 am

    Dear Friends,

Before describing the problem I’m having, first please allow me to provide some background. I’m trying to complete a short film in high definition in Adobe Premiere CS4. I’m using a Dell Studio XPS desktop computer using the Intel i7 quad processor, with 12 GB of RAM and 1 TB of hard drive space.

In the past, I have successfully exported my film from Premiere to an MPEG2 file many times, including as recently as yesterday. As I have added effects to the various video clips in my project file in Premiere, the project file has gotten large it’s now 16.5 MB, for a 17 minute film). I do have a ton of individual media clips in there, however it seems I should have the memory to back it up.

When the film has successfully exported from Premiere into an MPEG2 file, it has been about 2.3 GB in size.

Recently, however, I have not been able to do two things fully properly or successfully: (1) render the file in Premiere, and (2) export the file successfully as an HD (1920 x 1080) MPEG2 file. When rendering the file, when there is a lot to render, Premiere just gives up and gives me a warning message saying that the memory is too low, and that I should save my work just in case. I’ve gotten around this by rendering parts of it in pieces and then saving, then closing and reopening the file in Premiere (which itself takes around 10 minutes to load because the file is so big, I guess), and repeating. Using this workaround, I have been able to successfully render the entire film in Premiere.

However, the bigger problem is item #2. For some reason, when exporting the file into an MPEG2 (which is the only HD format that seems to work for my film using Adobe Media Encoder), it appears to encounter an error and stops. It does produce an export, but the export is only the beginning of the film. I have tried changing a variety of things in the film and on my system, but the problem persists.

So, I don’t know why the exportation is having problems and why the memory would be lacking. At this point I’m stuck and not able to export the film – yet it worked successfully yesterday (though the file was smaller then). Might any of you have an idea as to what the problem might be?

    Thank you very much.

    Good morning,

Just to provide additional information, the warning message that Premiere gives me after rendering is as follows: “Adobe Premiere Pro is running very low on system memory. Please save your project and proceed with caution.”

Also, for completeness, below is a record of all of the times I’ve tried to export this film using Adobe Media Encoder, which have failed each time for reasons unknown (I don’t know why it says “operation was interrupted by user”.)

    Thank you again, very much.

    Amar
