Adobe CS4 Premier Pro on Mac & Sony HDR-HC1E
G’day ‘Guys’,
Who would have thunk it, Adobe does not support it appears one of the first 1080i Camcorders (Sony HDR-HC1E), in fact, according to the CS4 Premier Pro ‘Device Control’ drop down list for Sony. In fact it seems it does not support any Sony HDV Camcorders… which is unbelievable since Adobe boasts about it’s HDV and Blu-ray capabilities.
When I phoned Adobe’s ‘Customer Service’ line (twice) I ended up trying to talk techo matters issues with Indian Call Center personnel whom I not only could not understand… they had troubles understanding my brand of English (I’m an Aussie).
When I phoned the Sydney office and managed to speak with an Aussie and send him an email complaining about not being able to understand their call center’s brand of English and wanting Adobe to attend to my reasonable expectation, that they fix the problem.
Well I later got… you guessed it, a call from the same Indian Call Center, hey we’ve all been there.
Is there anybody out there having the same problem? Is there anybody out there that has a solution to my problem?
I’m using a 17″ MacBook Pro with 8 gigs RAM and a 7200 rpm hard drive (uni-body) running Mac OS X 10.6.4 and Adobe CS4 Premier Pro.

I have a Sony Z1P and can work with this cam in CS5. The camera listing is irrelevant just use the alternative if the default isn’t working.
There is a known issue they are fixing where a HDV cam using the DV downconvert in the camera is not working in the Mac version.
Working in HDV doesn’t show you the screen either when you are searching or playing back shots – another bug they are aware of and fixing. Again this is only on the Mac version.
Something has changed in the Mac 10.6.x updates. I think I should have stayed with Leopard. Snow Leopard has not been a better experience for me.
I am happy I have both Mac and PC versions. Needless to say the PC is getting used a lot! – and it’s working really really well.
