Well this is what Natasha said:
[Natasha Wolfe] “I’m using Sony Vegas 9.”
Usually when someone says that, they are referring to Vegas Pro 9. If you are really using Vegas Movie Studio 9 then that’s a whole different set of instructions. Which is it?
If you really want to solve this problem, you might start with answering my question which I will now ask for the 3rd and last time:
What are your project settings???
Width: ?
Height: ?
Pixel Aspect Ratio: ?
Frame Rate: ?Otherwise I can’t help you.

March 27, 2011 at 3:12 pmI got more than just 1 response to my question… several other people on this site were asking me questions at the same time and I was responding to whomever I saw first in my email. I don’t appreciate rudeness. If I’m not responding fast enough for you, then don’t help me, and I’ll get help elsewhere.
No, I’m using the Movie Studio version, not Pro.
Width: 1,280
Height: 720
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.3333 (HDV 1080)
Frame Rate: 29.970 (NTSC) -

This is a very helpful forum but we need as much information as you can give us up front in order to help you.
It’s very difficult when we have to keep asking questions about your system in order to be able to help.
The information you gave in this post is what I’m talking about.
Had it been provided in the first post and not the 14th, you’d be happily editing and not stressed out.“I’m using the Movie Studio version, not Pro.”
Which is why the suggested plug-in doesn’t work.
It needs Vegas Pro, not Studio. To get back to the original question, make sure your Project Properties (File – Properties) match your source video.
Once this window is open, click the Match Media Settings icon at the top right, browse to the folder containing the footage, click on any one of them, click Open and then OK after it brings you back to the Properties window.Drop a clip on the timeline and make sure it fits the entire Preview screen.
If it doesn’t, open the Pan/Crop window on the event, right-click in the middle of it and choose Match Output Aspect. -

Sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude but I can’t help if you don’t respond.
[Natasha Wolfe] “Width: 1,280, Height: 720, Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.3333 (HDV 1080)”
Well… there is your problem right there. You have your Pixel Aspect Ratio set to 1.3333 for 1080 yet your project and media are 720.
Try setting your Pixel Aspect Ratio to 1.0000 which is the correct ratio for 1280×720 and this should help the problems with the black bars.
