  • Adjusting a mask

It’s the things that seem like they’re going to be so simple that trip me up…

I want to adjust a mask over time. I can do that.

What I really want to do is keep the mask visible and use the arrow keys to move forward one frame at a time. I can’t do that. What I do is this: the last vertex I adjusted moves to the right when I use the right arrow key.

In Maltaanon’s latest video (simple masking) he seems to move forward in time with the arrows, and the mask never deactivates.

    How does one do that?

    Thanks,

    Mike

Use Page Down to go forward 1 frame, and Page Up to go backward one frame. Adding Shift before either makes it ten frames at a time.

    The Arrow Keys are positional.

    Go forward 1 frame:
Page Down or Ctrl+Right Arrow (Windows) or Command+Right Arrow (Mac OS)

    Go backward 1 frame:
Page Up or Ctrl+Left Arrow (Windows) or Command+Left Arrow (Mac OS)

For more shortcuts like these, see the “Shortcuts for time navigation” section of After Effects Help.
