Adjust Volumes/DB Level of Audio Tracks in Bulk
Hi everybody,
I’m working with large batches of audio files (7,000+) in my FCP project, no video is involved. They are distributed by genre/category in separate bins and I’m required to adjust the volume parameter on all of them down -12 db.Is there a way to do this in bulk rather than clicking on every file and dropping it manually?
There is a way to drop them in the sequencer and paste the attributes in bulk, but then I lose my bins and it’s just about the same amount of work anyway.
Any ideas?

Select all the audio files you want to affect. Then type CONTROL ] to adjust down -3db. DO that 4 times to get -12db.
Control [ goes up +3db
Control- is -1db
Control+ is +1dbShane

I tend to prefer Command Alt L then adjust to the number.

Hey guys,
I appreciate the help and I’ve tried it but when I highlight any more than one file, neither command does anything. Both your suggestions work for one file but nothing happens when more than one is selected…I’ll play with it… any ideas?

It should work. It works for me. Why it isn’t for you…mystery. Trash preferences and try again? This is how I do this…daily.

Or if the all the audio is uniform, you can turn down the master by 12dB in the audio mixer.

or set one level of a clip in time line, select others, option-V paste attributes of audio level.

Are you trying to do what Shane said in on the clips in the time line or the browser bin? Won’t work in the Bin. The clips must all be on the timeline.Richard Cooper

Ahh ok, that was the miscommunication.
This is all in the bin. I have 7000+ tracks in separate bins so it would be just as much work to add those to the timeline as clicking each one and editing it manually.
Unless I’m missing any other work arounds…

AHA! Good catch Richard!
You can’t adjust anything to clips while they are in the browser. Can’t adjust audio, can’t add filters. Only in the Viewer or on the timeline/canvas.
