Is there a way to set up an opacity mask that adds a transparency percentage to opacity masks below it? The intent is to create the appearance of distance, objects at the bottom of the stack will be the most transparent. It also needs to be able to isolate blending, so the entire stack can be placed above a background layer that is unaffected by the mask stack.

I may be looking for a different tool than opacity masks entirely… see the problem and desired result below:

Left circle is opacity mask at 50%, Center circle is a white fill at 50%, Right is the center image with flatten transparency and an overlay blending mode applied only to resulting shapes that would be under the masks.

    Thanks!
