adding transition to clip and title

Hey David,

That seems really inefficent, because you now have 2 effects to render…is nesting used at all in that way? Seems to limit me on handles when I nest…

What are some applications you’d select several tracks and nest them?

The problem is that nesting brings with it an entirely new set of potential issues. And, rendering transitions is no problem. I know it sound inefficient, but I find it’s just better to thrown ’em in the timeline and move on.

good to know. That is how I’ve been working and it’s been a real struggle. That’s the best workflow in AVID, but not here I guess! 🙂

One good shortcut to do same transition is to alt drag the effect, which in affect copies the exact clip…right? Is that your workflow?

On my keyboard it’s option + drag. And yes, that’s a good technique for copying transitions, clips, etc., etc.

Hi all. I’m thinking of another possible solution, if I may. You could choose a transition and double-click it to open it in an editor, then trim the transition’s handles in the Viewer so it’s shorter [or edit the transition from the default any way you wish].

With the transition open in the Viewer, in the top right corner of the Viewer you’ll see an icon of a hand over a transition icon. Click-drag that into the timeline to drop your now-customized transition between clips.

Oh, and after that, I’d click-drag the same icon into the Favorites bin in the Effects tab of the Browser, then rename it to remind yourself of the transition’s new parameters [“quicker dissolve”, “push slide 2 sec open”, etc.]. Then, anytime after that, if you want to duplicate that transition just the way you like it, you can grab it from that Favorites bin. Helps to streamline your workflow.
