Adding second hard drive to G5 Quad
I just bought an Apple Refurbished G5 Quad. I also bought a 250 GB SATA internal drive. My plan is to have a dual boot system. When I open the Mac, I don’t see any additional cables to hook up the second SATA drive. Should the Mac have these cables pre-existing, or do I need to buy cables? How would I install this hard drive? Where would I attach the cables? What cables would I need to buy?

A standard Mac G5 is ready to go for a second drive. All cables, connections etc are all in place.
If you can’t figure it out, go to an Apple store, ask a “genius” to point out to you where you should put the second drive.
By the way, there are now 750gig drives available. Just installed a bunch of them in our systems. They’re great for backing up projects that you’re not quite ready to get rid of.

Sometimes, in its infinite wisdom, Apple sticks the SATA connectors for the second drive behind the first drive. I have seen this on several brand new G5s right from the factory. Brilliant move Apple.
So, in order to install the second drive you have to take out the first drive. Taking out the hard drives is easy once you know how, but it hard for a first timer, easy to break some palstic parts too, and its not at all intuitive. As Mark said, you might want to bring your puter to an Apple Store or possibly to a dealer for assistance. I know its painful to pay someone to do something you think you should be able to do yourself, but it sure beats breaking your MAC if you don’t do it right.
