Who’s got a good workflow for adding effects like hits and foley that occurs at precise moments?

In FCP, i’d usually, mark where they occur and then drop them in, often (in the case of reverbating hits) they’d overlap, so I’d add new tracks. In FCP X, the markers (on a clip in a secondary storyline) become hidden because the additional tracks add too much space, and furthermore I can’t seem to figure out how to “connect” to the secondary storyline.

Just wondering if any one else has an elegant way to be adding effects… seems clumsy to me, but that’s probably because i’m trying to do it the “old” way.

I think one of the intriguing this about the magnetic timeline is that audio tracks don’t need to be at the bottom where we are used to putting, and you can just as well have them above the primary storyline. This might help with your visual layout issues.

Also bear in mind that you can use the Clip Appearance dialogue (the switch icon at the bottom middle of the timeline window) to shrink stuff down that you don’t need which might also help.

    Thanks Simon,

I’ll give it a whirl. Just growing pains adjusting to the new interface – but overall I am liking the feel of it even if I feel clumsy right now.
