  • Adding camera bounce on spline to give impression of running

    running

I want to make this look more like running along a road rather than a rollercoaster.

How can I add a slight camera bounce to give the impression of running?

The camera is attached to a spline.

    Howdy,

The easiest way is to drop the camera into a Null object and align the Null object to the spline instead of the camera. At that point the camera can be animated with a simple Xpresso setup using a formula for a sine wave to drive the X and Y positions of the camera:

Just another suggestion: you could add a vibrate tag to the spline that the camera is aligned to.

right click on spline > Cinema4D Tags > Vibrate

    Just make the vibration subtle…

    Yet another suggestion:

You could place the camera in a null aligned to the spline and animate one cycle of the camera object rising and falling. Then use the repeat function to cycle the animation.

For best effect I would do the same thing with the camera target.

Being a bit of a noob, I managed to figure out attaching the camera to a null, the null to the spline, then a vibrate tag to the camera. It worked OK.

Applying the vibrate tag to the spline did nothing. I don’t know how to use a ‘repeat’ function so I gave that a miss.

The Xpresso file that Cactus Dan uploaded looks to work brilliantly. Although, when attached to my spline moves too much and I have no idea how to reduce the height that it bounces because this is the first time I’ve ever noticed Xpresso.

This is what the Xpresso editor looks, can you help me figure out how to reduce the amount of bounce please:

    Thanks.

    Hi Cactus Dan,

can you tell me how I can change the amount of bounce in the camera using Xpresso please, I have no experience using Xpresso.

If your sample bounces an amount of 1, I need it to bounce about 0.1 if that makes sense?

    I’d be very grateful, thanks.

    Howdy,

You can change the amount of bounce by changing the Amplitude slider on the Camera Root null object.

Amplitude, Frequency and Speed are the parameters in the formula for a sine wave. There are 2 sine wave formulas in the Xpresso setup, one for the X and one for the Y. The Frequency User Data is a vector (XYZ) so each sine wave formula has it’s own frequency parameter you can adjust. But the Amplitude and Speed User data are common for both sine wave formulas.

    Thanks Cactus,

    I’ve uploaded my file here:
    3135_cambounce.c4d.zip
I don’t think it’s going to work for me, maybe I’ve made my path too small or something? I just can’t get the movement that you had on a smaller scale? What am I doing wrong?

    Howdy,

The file you uploaded doesn’t have a spline in it.
